Dr. Yurii Lisniak, Head of the Department of Biotechnology and Embryology at the Institute, provided a detailed explanation of the stages of the research. He clarified that the scientific team isolated mesenchymal stem cells from bone marrow. They then developed special protocols to stimulate these cells in vitro and transform them into complete human sperm cells.
Subsequently, the resulting sperm cells were used to fertilize human eggs in vitro. The team successfully produced 800 healthy embryos from 3,000 fertilized eggs.
It was noted that these results are among the highest success rates globally, as the fertilization efficiency and embryo quality in this research exceeded the best international studies by 7%.
