Chromosomal Aneuploidy in the Placenta: A Normal Trait or a Harmful Factor to Pregnancy Outcomes

Chromosomal Aneuploidy in the Placenta: A Normal Trait or a Harmful Factor to Pregnancy Outcomes

Aneuploidy in the placenta is a pathological factor associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes and impaired placental function. According to studies, chromosomal abnormalities confined to placental tissue occur in approximately 1-2% of pregnancies, but they do not always affect fetal development. The placenta is a vital organ for fetal development and is composed primarily of trophoblasts derived from the outer layer of the embryo (trophectoderm).

Sickle Cell Anemia: A Journey Between Pain and Hope

Sickle Cell Anemia: A Journey Between Pain and Hope

Sickle cell anemia is an autosomal recessive genetic disease caused by a mutation in the HBB gene, which is responsible for manufacturing the beta chain of hemoglobin (the oxygen-carrying protein in the blood). The mutation causes the substitution of glutamic acid for valine at position 6 of the chain, producing abnormal hemoglobin (HbS) instead of normal hemoglobin (HbA).
